Choose productive starts in the leader, then keep an 80S moving through a CDS while avoiding premature stops, stalls, frameshift traps, and ribosome traffic.
Goal: finish as many translation cycles as possible: reach the CDS, survive elongation, hit the terminal stop, recycle the 40S.
Leader controls: ↑ leaky-scans past a start. ↓, or doing nothing, lets the 40S initiate that ORF.
CDS controls: ↑ and ↓ move between reading frames. ↑ at a stop attempts readthrough/decoding.
Pressure: TC/eIF pips are reinitiation capacity. The leader timer and ribosome spacing are the clocks you are fighting.
